For beginners, please bring a picture of something that has been painted by someone else. This helps you learn to see the darks and lights, the use of colors, brushstrokes and more. The Foster Books are excellent for this purpose and have nice paintings in them.
These supplies will last for years. Oil paints will last 20 years or more. With these basic supplies, you are set for many enjoyable paintings to come.
Michaels or Hobby Lobby or any art store should have these basic supplies. I recommend purchasing brushes locally from Dick Blick. They are located in Roswell and Midtown Atlanta, you can also order online at www.dickblick.com.
Please, no water mixable oil paints or medium. Check the label on all paints and mediums.
Oil paintings dry slowly. Your painting will still be wet at the end of each session. To avoid paint in your car, I suggest some means of transporting your work to and from class. Something as simple and inexpensive as an old bath towel or shallow cardboard box on the floorboard, trunk or cargo space in your car.
You do not need a painting box or easel to get started. A canvas tote works well for carrying supplies.
