Basic Handgun Safety & Training Course

YOU MUST BE 21 TO ENROLL IN THIS CLASS. The instructor will begin the class explaining ten of the most important safety rules one will need for basic gun safety. The laws pertaining to where and when a person can carry and when a person can and cannot use a weapon will also be included. The instructor will cover the basic steps of using firearms correctly, and students will participate in practical demonstrations in the classroom. Participants will then travel on their own to the shooting range location.  After arriving at the range, all range rules and live fire exercises will be covered. At this time, the  instructor will teach proper sight alignment, trigger pull, stance, breathing, and grip. Once students have finished at the shooting range they will break for lunch and then return to the classroom at UNG for additional instruction.   

Learning Objectives:

In this course students will learn:

  • Gun safety

  • How to handle a firearm

  • How to pick a correct firearm

  • Handgun laws

  • Hands on basic skills at firing range

Cost for the range for live fire exercises will be approximately $10 - $12 per person, which is an additional fee on the day of the class. Handguns can be rented and ammo can be purchased. Students can bring their own gun and ammo to the RANGE ONLY. Guns and ammo must be left and locked in your vehicle while on the campus.

For classes in Gainesville we will be using Trigger Time for the gun range.  

For classes Cumming we will be using Bulls Eye for the gun range. 

Notes:

As a participant in the Basic Handgun Safety & Traning class, You MUST be 21 years of age. You are responsible for providing your handgun, ammunition, ear and eye protection, and fees to pay for the shooting range. Your guns and ammunition MUST stay locked in your vehicle during the class portion at the college. NO GUNS are permitted on campus. (You will leave the classroom and drive to the local Shooting Range and meet the instructor for training and practice)  (YOU MUST LEAVE THESE LOCKED IN YOUR VEHICLE WHILE ON THE COLLEGE CAMPUS)
