YOU MUST BE 21 TO ENROLL IN THIS CLASS. The instructor will begin the class explaining ten of the most important safety rules one will need for basic gun safety. The laws pertaining to where and when a person can carry and when a person can and cannot use a weapon will also be included. Participants will then go over the basic steps of using firearms correctly, and students will participate in practical demonstrations in the classroom. The classroom portion will take approximately three hours. Following the classroom portion of this course, the class will take a short break and meet at local gun range. After arriving at the range, all range rules and live fire exercises will be covered. At this time, the  instructor will teach proper sight alignment, trigger pull, stance, breathing, and grip.

Learning Objectives:

In this course students will learn:

  • Gun safety

  • How to handle a firearm

  • How to pick a correct firearm
  • Handgun laws
  • Hands on basic skills at firing range

Cost for the range for live fire exercises will be approximately $10 - $12 per person, which is an additional fee on the day of the class. Handguns can be rented and ammo can be purchased. Students can bring their own gun and ammo to the RANGE ONLY. Guns and ammo must be left and locked in your vehicle while on the campus.

About the instructor, Officer Mike Queen:

Officer Mike Queen has been in law enforcement for 13 years. and has been teaching handgun training for many years now. He is a Law Enforcement Trained, Range Safety Officer for the Department of National Resources Shooting Sports Division in the Northeast Georgia and Metro Atlanta areas. He is most known for his patience, politeness and practical attitude. He specializes in personal and small group instruction. He is very patient and very informative and encourages his students to learn and keep up with the gun safety rules and to also always be prepared to protect themselves.

Notes:

As a participant in the Basic Handgun Safety & Traning class, You MUST be 21 years of age. You are responsible for providing your handgun, ammunition, ear and eye protection, and fees to pay for the shooting range. Your guns and ammunition MUST stay locked in your vehicle during the class portion at the college. NO GUNS are permitted on campus. (The last section of the class, you will leave the classroom and drive to the local Shooting Range and meet the instructor for training and practice) For the Range Portion following the classroom safety class: We will be using Trigger Time Indoor Gun Range for our live fire exercises. Cost for the Range is $12.50 per person, they also sell targets for $1 each. Handguns can also be rented at the range and they also sell ammo. Prices vary on amnumition. If you would like you can bring your own gun and ammo to the RANGE ONLY. (YOU MUST LEAVE THESE LOCKED IN YOUR VEHICLE WHILE ON THE COLLEGE CAMPUS)
